Tanner Roark snapped a five-start winless streak with a strong outing against the Tampa Bay Rays back on June 6th, but in the two starts that followed the 31-year-old right-hander gave up 14 hits, four walks, and seven runs in 10 innings, with his last start before Friday nightâs a four-inning outing against Toronto in which the Jays scored four runs total on eight hits over four innings. With a win last night, the Washington Nationals finished the Battle of the Beltways with the Baltimore Orioles 5-1. Now they take on the Philadelphia Phillies, against whom theyâre 2-1 thus far this season. Tanner Roark starts tonight in the series opener, weather permitting...

Tanner Roark gets support, but is out after just four in Nationalsâ 8-6 loss to Blue Jays

Tanner Roark hasnât received much run support this season, but he got some on Sunday, and struggled to get through four innings in what ended up an 8-6 loss.
Going into to Sundayâs start, Tanner Roark had just one win in his last eight outings (seven of them starts), in spite of the fact that heâd put up respectable numbers over that stretch (3.69 ERA, .238/.304/.407 line against in 46 1â3 IP).
His teammates werenât exactly helping him in those games, of course.
Even with an 11-run game two starts back, the 31-year-old still had the fifth-lowest average run support per outing among National League pitchers when Washington took the field in Toronto looking to avoid a sweep in the finale of the three-game set with the Blue Jays (více...)
