Marlins lefty Caleb Smith lost after allowing five runs on five hits (one homer) and five walks with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings against the Yankees on Monday.
Spin: Smith, who logged 18 2/3 innings with New York in his first MLB season last year, struggled in his return to Yankee Stadium against his former team. The Yanks took advantage of his shaky command, which resulted in nearly half (36) of his 84 pitches going for balls. Walks have been an issue through Smith's brief career, as he's issued 25 free passes in 34 1/3 innings. He's shown potential with 40 strikeouts, but the 26-year-old southpaw is still searching for his first career win. He lines up to make his next scheduled start at the Brewers on April 22. (více...)

Smith fans seven in no-decision
(11. 4. 2018, 06:49:07, mlb.com)
Marlins lefty Caleb Smith took a no-decision Tuesday after allowing three runs on five hits (one homer) and one walk with seven strikeouts in five innings vs. the Mets.
Spin: Smith held his own against a hot Mets team that's gone 9-1 to begin the year, keeping the Marlins in the game despite facing Jacob deGrom. He continued to rack up the strikeouts, and now has 19 in 13 1/3 innings this season. Walks have been an issue for the 26-year-old, however, as he's given out 10 free passes as well. The southpaw has good swing-and-miss stuff with a fastball that sits in the 92-94 mph range, so he has potential if he can hone his command. He's scheduled to make his next start at Yankee Stadium on April 16. (více...)
