Jung Ho Kang went 0-for-4 and fanned three times against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Incredibly, all five of Kang's hits this spring are homers; he's batting .156/.250/.625 with 16 strikeouts in 36 plate appearances. That's all the Pirates needed to see to make the frequent drunk driver their starting third baseman. He's 2-for-25 with 14 strikeouts during March.(více...)
Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Monday that Jung Ho Kang will be the team's starting third baseman.
In addition, Erik Gonzalez will serve as the starting shortstop, which means that Colin Moran will bounce between first base and third base while Kevin Newman will get a look as a backup middle infielder. Kang is just 5-for-28 (.179) this spring, but all five of his hits have been home runs. The 31-year-old missed almost all of the 2017 and 2018 seasons due to his legal problems, but the Pirates are hopeful he can get back to the production he showed upon his arrival to the states. He's an interesting late-round power bat in deeper fantasy formats.(více...)
Jung Ho Kang launched his fifth home run of the Grapefruit League season as the Pirates and Rays played to a 6-6 tie on Friday.
Remarkably, Kang has just five hits in 25 at-bats on the spring (.200), and each of them have left the yard. With Colin Moran slumping in Grapefruit League play, there's a chance that Kang could have a semi-regular role in the Pirates' infield to begin the season. He makes for an interesting source of cheap power in the final rounds of mixed leagues and NL-only formats.(více...)
Jung Ho Kang hit his fourth home run of the spring in Sunday's contest against the Yankees.
Kang took Yanks starter J.A. Happ deep in the third inning for a solo blast. It was his only hit of the game. Kang came out of the gates strong, and his four homers still rank among the league leaders this spring, but Kang is hitting just .200 with a .304 on-base percentage to date. The good news for Kang is his competition for the position, Colin Moran, is hitting even worse, batting .190 with a .250 OBP, in Grapefruit League play, leaving the door open for the 31-year-old to open the year as the Bucs' primary third sacker. If that's the case, his power makes him an interesting mixed league dart throw and NL-only option in drafts.(více...)
