Mengden loses shutout in ninth but gets first Coliseum win

Athletics right-hander Daniel Mengden won after allowing a run, six hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts vs. the White Sox on Monday.
Spin: Mengden came in having gone 0-10 in 13 previous starts at the Oakland Coliseum, but he dominated the White Sox in an 8-1 win.
Mengden had his sights set on a second career shutout -- his first coming Sept. 15 in Philadelphia last year -- and sprinted to the mound for the ninth.
"It was cold," Mengden said, smiling.
Jose Abreu launched Mengden's 106th pitch over the center-field fence to put the White Sox on the board.
"At the end of the eighth, [manager Bob Melvin] asked me if I wanted it, and I said, 'Yeah, I really want that,'" Mengden said. "One bad pitch, I guess, and there it goes." (více...)
