Manny Machado went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer on Wednesday in his Cactus League appearance against the Brewers.
This was the first homer of the spring that counted, as Machado's other homer was wiped away due to a rainout. It came off of Jimmy Woodruff in the first inning, and the two RBI give him four on the spring. He's still just hitting .176 on the Cactus League campaign, but no matter. Machado should be a 30-homer hitter with a strong average again in 2019, and should be off the board in the first 20 selections.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - When word of Manny Machado's $300 million, 10-year contract with the San Diego Padres broke early in spring training, team officials wouldn't immediately confirm the deal because the All-Star slugger still had to pass a physical. But that didn't keep general partner Peter Seidler, a nephew ... (více...)
Manny Machado went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a win over the

Manny Machado went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a win over the Angels on Sunday in the Cactus League.
Machado has not enjoyed his first ever Cactus League, as he's hitting just .148 with a .401 OPS with the Padres. You likely know better, but just in case, don't take this seriously. He's going to give you 30 homers and a decent average, and he should be among the first shortstops off the board in your draft regardless of format.
Manny Machado-Padres already feels like a solid marriage
(14. 3. 2019, 21:07:01, Denver Post)
The world at large, the greater baseball community and the members of the 2019 San Diego Padres all found out at roughly the same time, and through the same means -- a great rush of breaking news, transmitted via social media on Feb. 19 -- that the team had just landed star free agent infielder Manny Machado. It was late morning at the Padres' spring training camp, with the players heading out for pre-workout stretching, and the feeling was of a giant foot pressing down on a giant accelerator. (více...)

(13. 3. 2019, 04:28:01, San Diego Union Tribune)
With a crack of the bat that was pretty close to thunderous, Manny Machado lined a ball through the rain for his first home run in a Padres uniform. “It felt good,” he said. “I’m finally getting in the groove of things. It’s time to ramp it up.” Tuesday night’s game was called two batters after... (více...)

Somehow, the Padres turned James Shields into Fernando Tatis Jr.
(8. 3. 2019, 20:35:01, Beyond the Boxscore)
Why would the White Sox make this trade? Let’s dig in.
Padres’ prospect Fernando Tatis Jr., who was ranked as the game’s No. 2 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline, was indeed once traded for a player who went on to have the worst season by a qualified starting pitcher in five years. As of this writing, no pitcher since has been as bad as Shields was in 2016.
Here at Beyond the Box Score, we’re famous for our Trade Retrospectives, which were actually started by Spencer Bingol, who is now working for the Red Sox. Luis Torres has been doing many of the recent Trade Retrospectives, and they have been superb. I highly recommend them. (více...)
